It’s weird, really, how a game like “The Last Hero: Journey to the Unknown” ended up in my lap. Did I even ask for this? Maybe. Anyway, Ratalaika and Titan Art Games have cooked up this kinda wacky 2D wave-based fantasy thing. Picture this: there’s an evil wizard—classic bad guy, right? Wizard Voidgem swipes a bunch of magical relics. Honestly, it sounds like a bad dream after too much pizza. Your job? Be the hero, obviously. Slash through these levels with a sword and shield, like some sort of medieval superhero. Thirty levels, so eat your spinach.
Anyway, starting off, there’s this cutscene—not that I paid much attention. You get to move your character with the left stick (shocker), jumping with X, and bashing baddies with Square. Circle’s for the shield. Rolling and dashing with the R1 and R2 buttons sounds fancier than it feels. Oh, and don’t forget to chug potions with Triangle, because, let’s be honest, you’ll need them. The L2 button triggers some special power, but I got too distracted to use it wisely, probably during a boss fight.
Defeat enemies, gain coins. Sounds cliché, but hey, it works. These coins let you buy power-ups—things like Hot Meteors, which rain fiery doom. Or Double Shot. It splits fireballs. Sweet, right? There’s Sharp Peaks too, which sends spikes through the ground. Not gonna lie, kinda satisfying. You get gems by finishing levels with most of your HP intact, and these let you buy potions. Save your health, get richer. Could’ve used that advice in real life.
Ratalaika Games? Yeah, you can expect a Platinum trophy from them. This game’s no exception, and it’s a Cross-Buy title. Didn’t know about that until now. No idea why it matters so much, but getting a pair of Platinum trophies sounds like a trophy hunter’s dream, maybe. You collect relics, defeat enemies, and unlock skills to hit trophy milestones, just in case that’s your thing.
The game’s dripping in that 2D fantasy vibe, relic-stealing wizards, and all. You slay monsters, collect items, face off against bosses. Did I mention it’s Cross-Buy for just $4.99? So whatever console you’re on, you’re covered. And there’s something about snatching potions that boost health or double coin collection. Like, who thinks of these sales? But anyway, it keeps the adventure mildly interesting.
Gotta note, this was based on a PS5 version from Ratalaika Games. They didn’t pay me to say this, just putting it out there. If you’re in the mood for some chaotic hero business, this game might be your calling—or a hilarious nightmare. Could go either way.
