Alright, so there’s this quirky little game studio, Ice Code Games. Ever heard of ’em? They’re the brains behind Hard West 2 and Rogue Waters. Weird combo, right? But hey, they’ve got this knack (or maybe obsession?) for mixing up tactical combat with some supernatural spins on history. Hard West is like the Wild West — but with demons. Rogue Waters? Picture pirates battling sea monsters. Yeah, it’s wild.
Anyway, they’ve just dropped word about their latest concoction: Nightmare Frontier. Imagine Hunt Showdown and XCOM 2 had a baby, set in this freaky version of the American West. Sounds nuts, huh?
At first glance, you might squint and think, “Hey, this is Hard West all over again!” But nah, it’s got its own twist. You’re leading a ragtag bunch of scavengers, scrambling around a town overrun with these creepy critters called Dreadweavers. So, side note — Dreadweavers might be the weirdest monster name I’ve come across, like, ever.
The game kinda throws you into this high-stakes gamble. You fight off these beasties to snag loot, but it’s this whole how-long-do-we-stay-before-we-bolt type of deal. Stick around too long and, pfft, you might lose everything. Yet, the longer you linger, the more goodies you grab. Cool, right? Or insane.
And when you aren’t knee-deep in chaos, you’re back at base, MacGyver-ing your gear from whatever junk you found. Maybe even pick up a nifty new skill or two for the next monster mash.
Heads up — Nightmare Frontier’s hitting Early Access on Steam this summer. If you’re into that sort of thing, go add it to your wishlist or whatever.
In the meantime, while you’re twiddling your thumbs, check out some solid horror or action-adventure games already out there. Trust me, there’s some good stuff.
