Yuji Horii’s knack for spilling the beans is almost legendary at this point—seriously, it’s like he just can’t help himself.
So, yeah, picture this: A comic con in Napoli, Italy. Horii’s there, talking up his Dragon Quest roots, right? And boom—he sorta hints that Chrono Trigger might be getting a shiny new remake for its 30th birthday. It wasn’t a planned thing. Just slipped out. The panel dude asks him to repeat it, and Horii goes all “Oops!” hand-over-mouth, while the translator basically jokes, “You heard nothing!” Audience goes wild. Classic.
But it’s not like this is his first rodeo with accidental spoiler alerts. Back in July 2015, he spilled the beans on those Dragon Quest localizations for the 3DS versions. One of ’em was already ancient by Japan’s standards! Oh, and by the end of that same month, out came the news slip about Dragon Quest XI landing on the “NX”—which we all now call the Switch. Wasn’t even the main focus of the announcement. Crazy, right?
And then, oh yeah, March 11… Ding! 30 years since Chrono Trigger first launched in Japan. Square Enix pops up saying there’d be more anniversary stuff. Vague much? Who even knows what they’ve cooked up? Makes me wonder if Horii can keep quiet long enough for any surprises. Anyway, random thoughts aside—Chrono Trigger remake, anyone?
