Japanese giant Capcom, you know them right? They dropped this bombshell of ¥45.5 billion (which is like $302.2 million if you’re into conversions) for the quarter ending June 30th. Yeah, that’s a massive leap – about 53.7% up from last year. Thanks, in part, to their wild world of Digital Contents. That’s just a fancy way of saying games, by the way. They gave a shoutout to Devil May Cry 5, Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 4 Remake, and Street Fighter 6. Devil May Cry 5? That one got a boost thanks to its anime on Netflix. Funny how TV shows can spur game sales, right?
Devil May Cry 5, in particular, hit a whopping 10.5 million units overall. And in the last quarter alone? Get this: 1.7 million were sold. Not too shabby! Meanwhile, Resident Evil Village reached 12.2 million units, and Resident Evil 4, that classic, has hit 10.6 million. Oh, and Street Fighter 6 hit five million. Probably because it’s now on Nintendo Switch 2. People love their portable gaming.
So, while Capcom was racking up, they moved 14.16 million units this time around. That’s up 48% from last year’s 9.53 million. Quite the jump, huh? Now, what really blew my mind is their operating profit, which skyrocketed 90.8%. That’s ¥24.6 billion or, for those who like to keep track, $163.4 million. Like, what are they putting in their games to make a leap like that?
