Man, Samsung seems to be gearing up for something big in the US. Or at least that’s the buzz after President Trump mentioned it during some chat about trade deals with South Korea. Kinda random, right?
## Samsung: The Next Big Thing in US Manufacturing?
Alright, so the Trump folks are busy tying up some deals with not just South Korea, but also India and Japan. And apparently, it’s all about getting foreign companies to throw some cash into the US. Apple, TSMC, SoftBank — they’ve all announced these massive dollar ideas of building facilities here. Now Samsung might be jumping on the bandwagon, per The Korea Herald. Trump let it slip — maybe intentionally, who knows — that a Samsung deal might be in the cards soon.
“I heard Samsung’s doing it because of tariffs,” he said. “Without them? They’d probably skip it.” Funny how that works. Not even sure Samsung named names, but word is they’re planning a big new plant to dodge these tariffs.
Anyway — oh wait, back to the point — it seems like Trump’s crew is offering the royal treatment only to firms betting big on US soil. Here’s where Samsung enters with a bang. They’re already talking about beefing up operations in Austin and Texas, with a promise of 10,000 jobs. Plus, there’s some project in Taylor, Texas, supposedly dropping by late 2027. It might crank out those super fancy 2nm chips. NVIDIA’s drooling over it, or so they say.
There’s even a photo of the Taylor campus getting a facelift, something about a $37 billion investment, thanks to the CHIPS Act. But, surprise, surprise, the plans took an $8 billion haircut due to some economic shenanigans.
Oh, and Samsung’s eyeing a shift in where they make TVs and appliances. Because why not throw in a twist? Guess those tariff talks might shake things up further. We could get the full scoop once Trump nails down his South Korea policy, maybe even next week if we’re lucky.
Anyway, exciting times, right? Or just another Tuesday in the land of business deals. Who can say?
