Man, so the Nintendo Switch 2 dropped like two months ago and it’s already got a bunch of games, right? I mean, I mostly see it as my go-to for Nintendo-exclusive stuff. But now, it’s like giving me this excuse to try ports of games I missed. Ever heard of Wild Hearts S? It’s like this 2023 monster hunting deal from Koei Tecmo. Didn’t get to it before, but here we are.
Wild Hearts S kinda struts its stuff on the Switch 2, showing off its knack for third-party ports. You know, all those games that would laugh at the original Switch’s hardware. Cyberpunk 2077 as a launch title? Wild. Yeah, okay, Wild Hearts S doesn’t quite have the visual jazz of the PS5 or Xbox Series X versions. Think PS4 or Xbox One…ish? The textures kinda miss that extra oomph, and the framerate? Well, it trips up during the juicy bits. But if you’re all about the meat and potatoes, you’ll find it here.
Oh, speaking of which, check out the pic of a hunter about to smack down a huge kemono. I mean, I just can’t not mention it here. The designs are nuts — like, who thought to mix animals and nature? Rabbits with leaves or boars with vine whips. Crazy.
Anyway, so in Wild Hearts S, you cook up your own character and go hunting kemono. Like, the tiny ones aren’t much, but those big ones, man — they’re something else. Blending animals with nature, you know? They’ll give you a good whack with some freaky appendage. Swear I saw a turtle with coral on its back. Didn’t mean to kill it. Honest. Just wanted to see it up close.
These gigantic kemono hunts? That’s the main juice. You’ve got these towers to track them, and you use magical karakuri thingies to boost your chances. Like building huge walls or swinging hammers from springboards. Randomly realized those crate walls stop boar charges. Sometimes you just piece it together.
So, you finally face these beasts with, like, your tower of karakuri. The battles feel like forever, watching day shift to night, like those epic movie montages. I’m telling you, 20 minutes real-time is probably days in there if you ask me.
Oh, and the Lavaback! (Seriously, don’t get me started.) It’s like when game characters fight each other, right? Makes the place buzz with danger. Just took down a Spineglider, and bam! Lavaback’s throwing it around like it’s nothing. Made me chuckle, then panic.
But uh, yeah, as huge as these things are, the camera can be super whacky. Reminds me of those FromSoftware games where you get an up-close of a monster’s… well, insides. And cliffs? Yikes. You and the camera might get crushed. Not to whine too much, though.
Despite the hiccups, Wild Hearts S is a blast on the Switch 2. It’s not about flashy graphics, let’s be honest — handheld gaming has its own vibe. The thrill of monster hunting while I’m out and about makes the chaos worth it. Seriously can’t wait to dive back in.
