So, here’s the thing about the Switch 2, right? It’s got this screen that, honestly, might make you scratch your head and think, “Why?” Apparently, according to some review by this guy, Chimolog, who’s possibly from China (not that it matters, but just setting the scene here), the response time or whatever is like 17.06 ms on average. Yeah, not gonna lie, didn’t mean much to me at first either.
But here’s where it gets wild — no clue how this dude was doing his tests or what magical equipment he was using, but he sure didn’t explain it. Just diving into numbers, though: at one point, the screen hit 8.88 ms (sounds like a lucky number, maybe? No idea if that’s a thing here), and at the other end, 27.46 ms. Now, for something that’s supposed to offer a seamless 60 FPS gaming flow — relentless, right? — that’s a bit of a downer.
Chimolog goes on comparing this tardy screen with monitors out there, and guess what? Switch 2’s chillin’ at the bottom of the pool. The closest, apparently, was the Innocn M2U 27 Mini-LED thing, clocking a neat 11.06 ms. So yeah, far cry from what the Switch is offering.
Now, before you start drowning in numbers and I lose whatever tiny point I’m making — the Switch’s screen shines (literally) in brighter and more colorful ways. Chimolog’s eyes (hopefully well-calibrated or something) reported crazy good contrast and brightness ratios. It’s like 1309:1 contrast, 1.54% brightness uniformity (whatever that means), and peak brightness at 303 cd/m². And colors? All there — like a full-on burst of rainbows covering every possible spectrum for the sRGB, DCI-P3, Adobe RGB, you name it. The panel’s some kind of IPS magic, not that I’d know what that stands for without Googling.
One more curveball, though — text on this bad boy. There’s some special RGB layout causing words to blur like they’re playing hide and seek on the screen. It’s reminiscent of OLED panel quirks, if you’ve seen those.
Despite hiccups with testing the full 120 Hz capability (honestly, who’s counting?), these issues don’t seem to faze millions. The Switch 2’s flying off the shelves faster than people can say “Mario.” It’s broken a sales record with 3.5 million units gone in just four days. Insane.
In the end, I feel it’s more about the games and the nostalgia trip — people cling to that no matter how the display performs. Hopefully, Nintendo doesn’t dawdle before they bring in an OLED version. Until then, people seem happy dealing with the quirks, myself possibly included.
