Sure thing, here we go:
Okay, so there’s this company, right? Analogue. They’re like, super into the whole retro console scene and are supposedly revamping the old Nintendo 64. I mean, talk about nostalgia, right? Anyway, they just updated their FAQ page with some news that might bum out some folks. The Analogue 3D, which used to be called the Analogue 64—or was it just a dream I had?—is delayed. Again. But hey, not by much. They’re saying "late August," and you know how it goes with these things. Blamed it on some tariff shuffle last week. Classic.
So, here’s the kicker: They put out this post on social media, saying, "Guess what! We’re eating the tariff costs, so your preorder price stays the same. No extra fees, promise." Can you believe it? Mighty decent of them, if you ask me—or maybe I’m just gullible.
Now, if you’re one of those folks who’s had this pre-ordered since forever, you might be sweating a bit over all this tariff talk. But nope, Analogue’s standing its ground. "No extra charges," they say. Almost makes you feel like they care. Almost.
Delays, delays, and yeah, more delays
They’re still giving pre-order peeps the option to bail for a refund. If you’re fed up, you could totally get your $250 back. Though, honestly, after waiting this long, and with possible price hikes on the horizon when these babies hit the market, I bet not many are jumping ship.
So check this out: The Analogue 3D hype started way back—all the way in 2023. First teased, then announced in 2024. Fast forward to now, customers were originally told to expect these things in Q1 2025. Come March, a delay to July dropped outta nowhere. Now what? Macroeconomic craziness has tossed the date again, now to "late August." It’s like we’re on a rollercoaster they won’t let us off.
What’s the deal with the Analogue 3D?
This contraption’s supposed to replace your original Nintendo 64, offering “100% compatibility” with cartridges from any region. But, really, what’s got everyone buzzing is its design. I gotta say, it’s got this sleek look that somehow feels both modern and retro. Oh, and it spits out 4K HDMI, throwing in original display modes too. Pure eye candy, if you ask me.
It also plays nice with modern wireless and 2.4G accessories. But don’t worry, it’s still got those four classic controller ports for all us purists out there.
Here’s a fun tidbit: Unlike some of those other modern retro consoles, this one’s not messing around with software emulation. It uses this specially tweaked FPGA tech that kinda recreates the games on a microscopic level or something. Magic? Maybe.
Cartridges only! No funny business!
In case you’re curious, this new N64 homage by Analogue doesn’t do ROM files. Nope, it’s all about that cartridge life. Slide in those old favorites, and you’re good to go. But honestly, what’s stopping folks from using backup systems like the NEO N64 Myth Cart? Nothing. Until someone gets their hands on it, it’s anyone’s guess.
Analogue’s got this awesome rep for crafting retro gaming hardware. Maybe you’ve heard of their ‘Pocket’? That nifty gadget that’ll play your old Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance stuff. Oh, and they’ve churned out toys for MegaDrive/Genesis and SNES fans too.
So, there you have it. Maybe a bit messy, a smidge chaotic, but aren’t we all?
