Oh man, so picture this: Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio (those Yakuza folks, remember?) just rocked up to Summer Game Fest 2025, and they’re like, “Hey, remember that tease called Project Century?” Boom, it’s not that anymore. Enter “Stranger Than Heaven.” Like, just when you thought you had it figured out, they pivot and say, “Nah, let’s go L.A. Noire-style but, like, with our own spin.”
So, here’s the vibe: you got Mako Daito, the detective dude. He’s doing this whole moody, raincoat-wearing, cigarette-smoking thing in a city that’s all glitz and grit. Think of a place where you could easily get lost — not just in the streets, but in ridiculous nonsense like overly glamorous bars and, like, those sketchy alleys with mystery smells. I’m talking rowdy street brawls and seedy apartments. Picture it. Somehow, RGG Studio is going all in with survival bits too — which, okay, might be their first jab at this? Mako’s got these random hunger and thirst bars to deal with now. And, side note, smoking apparently makes everyone around him angry? Who made that decision?
No lie, the trailer gets all dramatic towards the end. Mako bumps into some American who’s all shocked he’s Japanese. Like, where’s this guy been living? Under a rock? Anyway — who even thought this was important — Mako goes on about losing himself. It’s classic Yakuza-like drama, you know what I mean? Even if the scene feels a bit weird for these developers, the over-the-top emotions are still kicking.
The game’s got this Project Century codename, right? And the trailer, outta nowhere, just jumps forward, like, three decades. So, I’m just speculating, but maybe — just maybe — you’re looking at a narrative that hops through different parts of the 1900s. RGG folks are playing coy, though. They’re basically going, “Don’t even bother guessing.”
We’ll see it dropping in 2026. Hold your breath, I guess. Or don’t — it’s not like we have all the answers.
