World Emoji Day! Kinda catchy, right? So, here comes Apple, throwing a new puzzle game onto its Apple News+ app. U.S. and Canada folks, you lucky ducks. It’s called Emoji Game. I know, right? Original name. It’s like a fill-in-the-blank with emojis. Weirdly fun, if you’re into that.
Apple cooked this up themselves, by the way. It’s the latest puzzle thing for Apple News+ peeps. They also have those nerdy crossword puzzles, Sudoku, and last year’s Quartiles — not sure how I missed that one. But Emoji Game is kinda its own animal. It totally takes advantage of the iOS quirks — flashy and all.
Okay, so you open it up and every day a new puzzle appears. Six words or phrases to crack, using emojis. Classic, right? You see something like Disap_ _ _ _, and there’s a pear emoji. Bam! Drag it in and—voilà!—Disappear. Or, like, maybe that pear means “fruit” on another day. Apples and oranges, right? Really makes you think. Or not.
It gets crazy with multi-word stuff. Here’s one: _ _ _ _ _ _ Year _ _ _ k. You get a ghost and a fish emoji. Ghost fits in “Yearbook” because, like, “boo.” And the fish? Think “school.” School yearbook. Mind blown, right? They even throw you a bone with hints so your brain doesn’t explode.
Oh, and there’s this thing called Genmoji in iOS 18, which makes it more fun. Saw an eaten apple emoji get used as “core.” Get it? Apple core. Tiny bit genius, maybe.
Apple’s pulling a Wordle here. Daily puzzles, leaderboards, streaks. Can’t shake the feeling they’re chasing that hype train. You get six tries to solve these. Wordle vibes, anyone? It’s not exactly gonna make you rush to subscribe, but hey, if you’ve already got Apple News+, one more thing to fiddle with.
So, if you’re bored and got an iOS device, check it out on Apple News+. Available today. Who knew emojis could be this… intense?
